What are some of the most important qualities you look for in someone who is promoted to the desk?

One main leadership quality is someone who isn't afraid to immerse themselves on the floor when needed. Staying stationary at the desk vs among the people who need you will cause a coupe d'tat rather quickly. 

The best sales managers I've seen were always on the floor, working with the salespeople or helping to close deals. Really getting involved and being hands on. The worst and usually the ones everyone had a problem with were the ones who sat behind a desk all day and were keyboard warriors.
