Are you really an “Expert”?

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

The benefits of being involved in the network here at DrivingSales are huge.  For both dealership personnel that participate and the vendors alike.  It allows us to be exposed different schools of thought on a variety of subjects and discovering best practices.

The only real constant is change.  Things that worked yesterday fade away fast in the digital age.  While the bulk of the content and topics for discussion relate mostly to Internet marketing and processes to facilitate moving customers from Internet lead to sale, it is just the start of things to come.

Right now in our membership is growing at a rate that is far exceeding expectations and members are engaging each other on a variety of subjects on the blogs and in our discussion forum.

We have seen successes already in dealership ISM’s asking for and receiving actionable feedback to address an issue on updating specials on their site.

SEO seems to outscore Search Engine Marketing based on the comments from industry professionals, who are masters of their craft, to bad the SEM vendors have not stepped up to comment on it.

A person just getting into the car business is being showed the ropes on follow up and can probably use more guidance from the wealth of knowledge amassed here.

These conversations benefit everyone that participate in them.  Even if it only reminds them of what they should be doing or exploring other alternatives to their marketing mix.  Vendors that help establish themselves as experts in their fields, the newbies learn from the pros and the old dogs start learning new tricks.

This is what is exciting about what we are doing here the all of us is bigger than the one of us.

My question is why are YOU not participating?

Benefit of the Longtail

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Long tail SEO is one of the easiest ways to draw traffic to your site. Long tail search terms are very specific search terms. In automotive I would describe them as “Used Red f-150 in Seattle” or “Hyundai Sonata w/nav near Jacksonville”. Real easy to rank for but hard to define.

A real life example where long tail searches influenced my buying activity is where I need to replace a laptop keyboards for two l laptops. I did a search for “replacement keyboard laptop model#” and found exactly what I was looking for right away ordered them and they will be here tomorrow. The site that had one also had the other. A win win for me. I spent less for two replacement keyboards than I was getting prices for one.

Longtail will get buyers in that are looking for something specifically that you may have in stock. Take advantage of it.

Search Engine Strategies - Where are you?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Search Engine Strategies event located in San Jose, California from August 18-22 is the premier search engine networking and learning event of the year. I was surprised today when I spoke with one of the executives from TK Carsites when he told me they had a team attending and they have not been able to connect with others in the Automobile Industry in attendance, they can’t find any other vendors that serve dealers there.

While the event is drawing to a close in two days I was asked to reach out to the community here to see if anyone had representatives there so the TK team could hook up with them. It would be a great opportunity for SEO and SEM professionals to network.

Right now they are covering the event and blogging about the workshops they have attended. Maybe when the next conference is announced we can have a staff to cover the event as well. If you do not have an individual or team there you can see what you are missing at TopDealerSEO.com where our industry peers are sharing the knowledge they have acquired at SES San Jose.

If you do have people there and would like to hook up with the guys from TK give me a call at 912-266-1629 and I can get you connected with them.
